People are the best education
Dear Reader,
If you knew me in school you would know I wasn’t there for the classes. I was there because I loved the people, and I loved socialising. And although I don’t think school is bad I do think that practical application educates students on a different level.
For instance, I was awful at the subject of Geography. I couldn’t tell you how many countries there are or where they are. But after a few months of travelling the world, I have a lot more understanding and knowledge.
Meeting people and having discussions about their home countries and where they have visited has also educated me in history more than the school could ever have. Here are a few things (without going into detail) that I have learnt in the past few months just by talking and listening.
Emma and Rueben from the South of France explained how France has both a President and Prime Minister and right now the French citizens are rebelling because they believe the authorities are abusing their power.
Kamil, Donovan and Matt from Canada taught me that the Canadian Government is bilingual and English and French are the official languages of Parliament. These guys are from Ottawa, Canada (where Parliament is) and it is normal for everyone to speak both languages.
Karin from Israel shared her experience with recent events her country was involved in and shared her heart and it made me reevaluate how firstly we are all humans trying to do our best and secondly not everything we hear is gospel and it is usually propaganda trying to manipulate or persuade large audiences.
A lady on the train from Sitges to Barcelona, Spain explained the ongoing battle between the Spanish and the Catalans. The Catalans (citizens of Catalonia, Spain) are wanting to become an Independent nation as they do not agree with the political policies of the Spanish Government.
That is only a small amount of the conversations I have been blessed with so far and my conclusion is that at the end of the day, we will never know everything there is to know in this world but I think the best way to start is by meeting people of different cultures and see what you get out of that.
All my love,
Kaila 💌
