This Version of Me

Dear Reader,

I always found the saying, “friends for a season” so sad. The way you can be close to someone for a little while and then drift apart. But as humans we are constantly changing and sometimes unfortunately all at different speeds. So you simply can’t stay in relationships and friendships with people who are no longer in the same season as you. So instead of being upset by that phrasing, I feel grateful we had the opportunity to spend that time together. Once in a while I will look back and reminisce but I know I will never go back, this version of me just wouldn’t allow it.

You once knew all of me

Could recite everything I ever loved or dreamed

But now I find peace in the simple fact

you don’t know this version of me

You don’t know my latest adventure or my favourite song

You don’t know how big my dreams have truly become

This version of me can say no and not regret it

This version of me can look in the mirror and not hate it

The girl you once knew has changed for the better

The boy I once knew has changed beyond measure

And now I find peace in this simple fact

that I don’t get to know you and I really like that

I don’t know where you are growing up

I don’t know if you are thriving or not

This version of you I hope is still sweet

This version of you I pray I never meet

I hope you can learn from the lessons in each relationship you have been blessed with and can find peace to take those lessons into the next one, with the new, improved version of you.

All my love,

Kaila 💌
